August 2, 2021
Hello, Friends!
It’s hard to believe that we’ve just flipped the page on the calendar and that August is here already! We hope you’ve been enjoying a safe and fun summer, and it’s been wonderful to see so many familiar faces of friends and fans at our concerts so far, and also to meet new audience members seeing Swingtime for the first time.
We had a fantastic time Sunday evening at the Tilles Center to kick off the month of August, and as we head down the stretch of our 2021 concert tour, we wanted to let you know about our upcoming shows, starting with our trio of concerts in Eastern Suffolk County…
On Tuesday, Aug. 3 (7pm), we play for the Rocky Point Summer Concert Series at the St. Anthony of Padua R.C. Church on Rt 25A. We are very excited to return for our 9th annual appearance on this wonderful series, presented by Legislator Sarah Anker and the North Shore Youth Council. You can see more details here.
Next up is our big ‘homecoming’ to the Westhampton Beach Village Green Concert Series on Thursday, Aug. 5 (7:30pm) where will celebrate our 32nd annual Big Band night! We are extremely proud that our band has been the one and only group featured through all these years (dating back to our original identity as The Stardusters Big Band, led by founding director, Bob Rotunda!), so we are greatly looking forward to seeing all our friends in WHB. We are hopeful for a typically gorgeous night there, but we are grateful to have Westhampton Beach HS as a rain location if the weather does not cooperate. See details here.
The following week, we conclude our mini East-Suffolk ‘residency’ on Monday, Aug. 9 (7pm) with a return to the Sachem Public Library in Holbrook, NY for our first show there since 2016! We’ve always enjoyed a very warm welcome from the audience there, so we eagerly await our upcoming reunion (and the library does indeed have a lovely auditorium where we can perform if the weather is not ideal, so we will play rain or shine!). See details here.
Finally, to conclude our summer 2021 tour schedule, we are thrilled to be performing at a brand new venue for us in Nassau County! On Wed., Aug. 11 (7pm), we will play at Chelsea Mansion in East Norwich, NY (presented by Nassau County Parks Dept.). I am also pleased to let you know that it is no longer necessary to have tickets or reservations for this concert, since County Executive Curran recently announced that all advance ticketing, limits on capacity and reservations are lifted for parks events. See details here.
In fact, all four of these August shows are free to the public, so please bring along a chair or a blanket and a picnic supper, and join us for a swingin’ good time!! You’ll get to enjoy our popular new program —THAT is the Question!— which features Great American Songbook titles or lyrics in the form of a question (with a nod to our favorite game show, Jeopardy!). Plus, our two engaging vocalists, Zack Alexander and Bobbie Ruth, will salute the great Nelson Riddle in honor of his 100th birthday!
We look forward to seeing you very soon at one of these shows, and I hope that you will come up to the bandstand to greet us while you’re there. In the meantime, take good care and have a safe and enjoyable summer!
