October 2024
Greetings, Friends!
For our first newsletter since the summer, let me start by sending warmest greetings from the entire band, along with our sincere appreciation to all of you who came out to see our Summer 2024 concerts. It’s always a privilege for us to be back on stage together performing for you, and it was wonderful to see old friends and to meet new fans. We were so grateful to hear your enthusiastic applause and feel the positive energy from the thousands of folks who came out to see us in June, July and August, so…THANK YOU!!
We hope you and your family are very well with fall now underway, and as the weather starts to get cooler and the leaves show their beautiful colors before falling from the trees, we are thrilled to announce a number of Swingtime shows this November, including a new program in an exciting new venue!
We eagerly look forward to our debut performance at the Bergen Performing Arts Center in Englewood, NJ on Saturday night, November 23 (8:00pm), and we have a very special new program called HAPPY FRANKS-GIVING! – Swingtime Big Band Salutes Sinatra. Since this beautiful theatre is located just 30 minutes north of Hoboken (where “Old Blue Eyes” was born), and since Frank’s birthday is just a few weeks later, we thought this was the perfect occasion to celebrate his legacy, with a focus on his collaborations with another son of New Jersey—the legendary Count Basie! And, of course, that means the spotlight will be on our wonderful vocalist, Zack Alexander, who was the 2016 winner of Hoboken’s ‘Sinatra Idol’ contest. You won’t want to miss this one!
Tickets for this special Nov. 23 show are on sale now, with seating available at $29, $39, or $49 each, and you can purchase yours online (CLICK HERE) or by calling the box office during regular hours at 201.227.1030. BUT WAIT! As we usually do, we are very happy to offer our dear friends and fans of Swingtime a special 10% discount on your purchase of up to four tickets! Just use the codeword SWINGTIME when you order to receive that discount.
Before we head to Jersey, however, we will perform our annual Veterans Tribute concerts on Long Island at the beginning of November, both of which are dedicated to America’s servicemen and women past and present! As I have said so often, all of us in SWINGTIME believe adamantly that EVERY day should be Veterans Day, in order to appropriately express our sincere gratitude to those who have sacrificed so much to help secure our great country and our way of life. We hope you will join us in giving musical thanks to these brave Americans who have served our nation.
First on Saturday, November 2 (2pm), we return to the South Huntington Public Library for our traditional Veterans Tribute program in Suffolk County! It’s always a delight to be back on stage at the wonderful SHPL Auditorium, and we are expecting our usual full house here. As in the past, SHPL cardholders can get up to two free tickets in advance. Tickets are valid until 1:50 pm, when non-ticket holders will be seated, if space allows. Previous experience has shown that people who arrive before 2pm are almost always admitted, but again, there are no guarantees. Details and registration here.
Then we return to Nassau County on Sunday, November 3 (2pm), for our seventeenth annual Veterans Salute concert presented by the East Meadow Public Library! We can’t wait to return to the EMPL’s terrific performance space, which is an intimate and vibrant room where all can see and hear in comfortable surroundings! As always, we are expecting another full house for this performance, and registration is required (starting for East Meadow residents only on Oct. 21, and then open for everyone on Oct. 28). If reservations are all taken when you go to register, please come wait in line to fill any empty seats not taken before the concert starts. While we can’t guarantee admission, experience has shown that nearly everyone there does get seated for the concert. For more details, call 516-794-2570 or visit https://eastmeadow.info/.
Please check our website regularly for additional dates that are added to our schedule, and you can also check out our Facebook page for news alerts and postings of videos, and please be sure to Like and/or Follow us there to see our regular posts.
We hope to see you at one of these upcoming November performances, and in the meantime, we wish you and your family a happy, healthy and safe “Autumn in New York!” (which reminds me of a song!...).
Swingingly yours,
