July 6, 2022
Greetings, Friends!
We hope that you and your family had a fun and safe Independence Day weekend, and I am happy to report that Swingtime has already kicked things into high gear as we roll on with our summer 2022 Tri-State concert tour. We have received a most enthusiastic response to our fun new program, SUNRISE SERENADE, especially at our Astoria Park Fireworks show last week, where a crowd of over 15,000 people gave us a hearty standing ovation! That great energy powers us forward into July…
We are hugely excited for Swingtime’s return to Eisenhower Park’s Harry Chapin Lakeside Theatre this Friday, July 8, presented by our friends at Nassau County Parks. Our concert starts at 8pm, and there’s plenty of room to spread out a blanket and chairs and enjoy a picnic supper, so we hope you will come join us (with plentiful parking available in Fields 6 and 6A). Here is a link for more details.
The following week, we welcome a brand new presenter for Swingtime, as we make our debut on Thurs., July 14 at the Rogers Memorial Library in Southampton! This is a fairly new outdoor summer series, and there will be room for dancing in front of the band in our planned set-up in the parking lot in front of their Cooper Hall (plus, they do have an indoor concert location on site if the weather doesn’t cooperate!). The show starts at 7pm, so dust off your dancing shoes and please join us! Click here for more details.
Then, on Wed., July 20 we eagerly anticipate our return to Manhattan’s Upper East Side for Carl Schurz Park’s ‘Summer Sounds’ Concert Series! After a run of ten consecutive summers performing on this gorgeous promenade overlooking the East River, we had an unplanned two-year hiatus (for obvious reasons), so we can’t wait to see all our friends and fans in NYC for our show here, which starts at 7pm. Click on this link for more details.
Next, we head north for our 14th consecutive appearance at the renowned Music Mountain Festival in Falls Village, CT, on Sat., July 23 (7pm). It’s always special for us to play in Music Mountain’s acoustically ideal Gordon Hall, and we’re happy they decided to return to their traditional ‘Twilight Jazz” format with an early evening start this year. For those of you who plan to be up in that area for the weekend, I sincerely hope you will take this opportunity to come hear us in this idyllic setting (just below the Berkshires)! Tickets are on sale now, but going fast, so please get yours today: Ticket details and directions.
And last, but absolutely NOT least!... We close out the month with a bang on Sun., July 31 (8pm) with our return to the Chapin Rainbow Stage in Huntington’s Heckscher Park for the 57th Annual Huntington Summer Arts Festival. We have always drawn a substantial crowd in this lovely spot, so please come early with your blankets, chairs and picnic basket, and join us for a fun evening of classics from the Swing Era and the Great American Songbook! Click here for more information.
Each of these shows features our SUNRISE SERENADE program, which showcases a “solar-powered” line-up of Big Band classics, plus, we’ll also feature our traditional salute to our Veterans and the Troops, along with 100th birthday tributes to bandleaders Neal Hefti and Ray Anthony, and superstar vocalists Doris Day and Judy Garland! You won’t want to miss this one, so we hope you will add one or more of these dates to your calendar, plus there’s more to come in August (which we will tell you about in our next newsletter, but, in the meantime, you can always check out the schedule page on our website).
We look forward to seeing you soon at an upcoming concert, and I hope you will come say hello at intermission or after the show (and also check out our ‘merch table’ where you can acquire some Swingtime ‘swag’ to take home with you!)! In the meantime, we hope you stay cool, stay safe, and enjoy your summer!
Swingingly yours,
